The theme for ‘Blue Well’ originates from a nearby 12th century well once standing adjacent to Ladywell Station. This well, according to historical sources, had a history of healing properties and was a source of sustenance for Pilgrims travelling to Canterbury.

The Well is symbolic of life, rejuvenation, cleansing and purification.

The watery interior of the well has been elevated and made visible, and creates a place of quiet contemplation for  patients, staff and visitors to the hospital.
