Webcatcher

Conington Rd, Lewisham, London 2011

Commissioned by St James Homes

6 sculptures 5000mm, stainless steel tubing and rod.

The Webcatcher Sculptures celebrate the Old Silk Mill that previously stood on this site.
It was renowned for its production of silk and metallic threads.
There was a tradition in various regions of the country for children to gather cobwebs using a loop formed by flexible twigs. When immersed in water it was believed the threads would turn to glass and form a mirror.
This formed the concept for these sculptures.
